Some forty broad wall planks from a wooden church have been found under the floor. Some of them are ornamented with concentric circles like the ones from the stave church of Hemse. The date 1058 on the inscription table over the southern portal (put up in the l9th century) could possibly apply to this church. The 13th century church was very roughly handled in 1839-40 when it was thoroughly rebuilt.
