The oldest part of the church is the lower part of the tower, which was
erected in the first half of the 13th century; it was added to at the end
of the century in order to suit the new church, the chancel portal of which
is a magnificent example of the fully developed early Gothic in the spirit
of Lafrans Botvidarson. The vault paintings in the chancel show a combination
of ornaments and figures, which is a novelty for Gotland, indicating a continental
influence, probably with Denmark as a connecting link. In the big chancel
window there are some small stained glass panes from about 1300. The Rood
is a 15th century work.
